I have a VW Bug 73 that does not run, and the registration has expired about a month ago . In California , it will have large fines when I get it registered? I hope to get it going soon , I thought maybe there was a certain amount of time that had to be the operating profit, no op to register , so do not want to do that . Help please!

There are fines in all states where registration expires ... but only if you 're driving. As soon as you put it on the road ( if you do) go get ur registration .

There is a penalty increases with the amount of time that is not registered. Register it as soon as possible . I think if just one month , you are still able to do that . If I remember correctly, the fine is not very large.

You must file a non-operating permit , no amount of time you have to be out of operation before. You can still register that way.
The fine increases the longer you take to your record. A 73 VW will not be long no matter what.
