Anti-cancer screening conspiracy?0Barb2012-07-12 08:30:02
You may have heard in the news that it can actually be a bad thing for women to get screening for breast cancer, ovarian cancer and for men to get screening for prostate cancer. Does anyone else find this a little hard to believe? It seems like lately politicians have been pushing to gut preventive care (especially for women) and I am curious if any of these studies were influenced by their dollar in an effort to dissuade people from screening on false pretenses, just to save insurance companies money. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or know of relevant information?

Yesterday at my first prenatal visit , my nurse practitioner told me to schedule a nuchal projection where do the blood test + ultrasound to check the baby's neck for signs of Down Syndrome . She did not tell me about the projection , saying only that schedule, so I assumed it was some kind of standard evaluation is done. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus However, when I was reading over forms ( after programming it) , said he consulted with insurance if you are under 35 years to see if it covers . I tried to call my insurance , but they could not give me an answer except " if medically necessary." MedlinePlus MedlinePlus My nurse - practitioner has marked my pregnancy "high risk - in general" , but certainly not for Down Syndrome . So I'm not sure if this qualifies as medically necessary . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Has anyone had experience in the neck was covered by insurance? What was necessary was that ? It is "high risk " a valid medical reason ( in the eyes of insurance) to cover it ?
