No, it is illegal for the car to be on the road without displaying a valid tax disc in the UK, you receive no grace, even if the car tax online and have not received the disc in the post,

There is not and never has been any "grace " period for renewal of a tax disc .

Expires the last day of the month , for example , if your tax is due on July 31 and the car is tax free after midnight on August 1 , you are breaking the law.

Police are now being very difficult for tax-free drivers . Your friend is risking your car being seized and crushed.

do not know where , but if there is no grace period mentioned in the letter, there may be a fine for being late.

No, do not. If the prosecutor takes place in, say , July 29th if you are driving at 00:01 am on July 30 that they are committing a crime. Get it renewed before it runs out.

There is a grace period of 14 days after its expiration in which you decide to tax or SORN it. During this time you can not use , or even leave it on the road or in a public place.

Online tax if you get a 5 day period of grace for not having to see the disk as it will be in the position, you have nothing to put on the windshield saying this, they know. You can still use the car normally for 5 days and often will send a postcard to remember.

Anything other than the above is the urban myth and nowt else.
Quite frankly the other answers above me here are a whole load of rubbish and have many misleading thumbs up .

You have two weeks before issuing an automatic penalty .
However, the car can not be on the road without a valid disc , so if you want to use the two-week grace should keep the car on the ground for that period.

at any time before it runs out after running out you owe your late late without grace could have done last week last month, but not now step up its not a good afternoon

Answer8MaAnswered at 2012-06-01 01:04:27
Ignore your friend , I always get a tax as soon as you receive the notice so " do not forget ."

For people who say there is a grace period , please provide a link , preferably to back it up , you can not expect to be believed if there is nothing to back it up .

A grace period to return to tax the car is one of the great myths is British motorsport .

There has never been a period of grace , ever.

Maximum 14 days provided you have valid insurance and MOT not always stopped for a crime
